THE POWER OF A GOOD EXAMPLE A NEW PARADIGM TO END GLOBAL MISERY
Turning the Wheel of Change
The wheel of change is in the midst of us to redirect our world. To some people it’s not turning and for others it is turning but slowly. No matter the state we all need one thing. And this one thing is the will to turn the wheel of change.
The United Nation has chosen the General Assembly of States as the birthing place of that will, the region of Europe has made the European Union its own birthing place of that will, the region of Africa has recently dedicated the African Union as the place to birth its will of change. No matter the place one thing is needful, sustainable change.
For so long we have committed the responsibility of change in the hands of our leaders. I have learnt and I am still learning that leadership is the responsibility of every individual. I do not hope on any leadership the way I hope in my self to bring about sustainable change.
If we remain onlookers of their failure, we also will suffer the tragedy of our irresponsibility. A lot of people especially in developing countries are worried about corruption and wonder if it will ever stop.
The Moral Definition a cure to Corruption
If mankind who is the author of corruption has an end, then suffice it to say that all things have an end. I see the end of corruption in Africa even as I watch people who ignore the moral definition in their leadership crash to ruin. I say this to my generation if we are willing the will and power to run the full course of positive change will be present.
Martin Luther King Jr once said if a man hasn’t discovered what he should die for, he isn’t fit to live. Life has never given any body or generation of people what they want but who they are. Let’s cross examine ourselves who are we?
Lets look back form the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, to the Apartheid in South Africa, to the genocide in Rwanda to the crashing of the World Trade Center to the war in Iraq and to the present war between Palestine and Israel.
To know who we really are check out what is happening around you. Nothing, but hate, racism greed, murder, exploitation, prejudice, temptation to suicide, callousness …etc the list is long. We are getting back from life what we ourselves sowed in life. Where do you think all the evil seeds you sow go to? No where ‘except at your backyard”.
Tame the Tongue:
A wise One once said the words you speak and the actions you take are spirits and they are life. They produce what ever you design them to produce.
The choice is ours and the consequences are also ours. This generation that talk so much about human rights, equality, development, good governance, democracy, freedom and liberty will be tested by its own beliefs.
The better man is not he who sermonizes well against his fellow man, nor he who proposes good things, but acts on none. Instead it is the man who allows the goodness and the love in him to overwhelm the callousness, evil and hate going on around him. Each one of us, whether American, Asian, African, European or Australian, let us bargain for good and not for evil.
We have a future so let’s think and act sustain ably. Our leadership paradigms like politics and diplomacy have all failed to bring about desired outcomes, because we have ignored to be the change.
Until the U.N, the A.U, the E.U and the Global Committee of Youths understand that the power over the challenges we face is the power of good examples we will ruin our chances to put this world right side up. It is difficult if not impossible to make people believe in democracy, diplomacy or politics as a messiah for change.
Only good examples can renew the consciences of our present leadership to act as they ought. The excellence of government is confirmed by its ability to implement decisions and resolutions without the possible use of force. This level of governance is attained by means of leading by example.
Leadership, the Dawning of a New Standard
Our last model to sustainable change and justice is the model of leadership that is and appeals to example as a tool to effect change and ruler ship. So many economic analysts are citing the economy of China to illustrate possibility of economic development to Developing countries.
This is by virtue of the fact that China, a former developing country has put up an economic example. China did not use war or weapons of mass destruction to attract global attention to their economy, just making the difference.
Therefore in spite of all the frustration of the moment, the global community has to look forward and drive forward with an attitude to stimulate change by example. We owe it to our future as well as to ourselves and posterity.
Purpose that is not pursued can be not be fulfilled, let’s talk less and do more. We have to labor for the course of peace and security until every order of the old changes and agrees to the order of leadership by example and not by might.
John Mason made a statement that it takes the hammer of persistence to drive the nail of success. Times tell us that we can not be weary in our efforts towards peace and justice. And if we have to persist we have to keep it up with an exemplary disposition.
Partnership An acute tool
As interactive development becomes the order of the day I perceive partnership as a leeway to bring about lasting changes. To break systems especially bad ones we have to partner, exchange, connect, share, cooperate and work as a team.
Our cooperation has to be of perspective even if our environments are not the same. What matters is that every partner is doing something to arrive at a common conclusion… sustainable change and egalitarian social welfare.
There is sufficient power, mind bugling, and heart renting power, more dynamic than nuclear weapon for a man, nation, government or authority whose motto is… bringing about change by serving as an example. We can not leave out the moral definition. Without morality (truth, honesty, legitimacy, ethics, goodness and integrity) authority is handicap to effect change without the possible use of aggression. Morality is what brings about justification of action, and general obedience to decision taken.
And it seems to me that today we are loosing grip of this aspect in international relations and actions. I am sure many will probably want to ask me where we start the moral battle?. The moral battle starts with individual persons, and then moves to their homes, to schools, communities and then it takes hold of the government.
No body wants to be alone; people have the power to continue in evil because they still find evil presences around. Development agents like; associations, NGOs, CSOs, political parties and trade unions have an immense challenge to infuse this new discourse within the civil society with the objective to organize belief for the regurgitation of the moral clarity in the social, political and economic framework of every society.
The God Factor
Let’s not also leave out the God factor, freedom of religion has to be respected. And the respect for freedom of religion means that we adhere to the moral values of our different religions. If people can follow their religion as it is, without diluting or adulterating anything in them man and man, will be at peace. Besides, each religion be it Christianity, Islamism, Judaism, Buddhism or Hinduism has honorable principles that are not contradictory to the existence or multicultural peaceful coexistence of humanity.
Too many people are professing religion but serving their ambitions, we have so much ignored the God factor (moral norms governing our different religions) as a constitutive element in our desire for peace and justice and also as a restrain into the temptation of proliferating barbaric activities.
Good Governance- the Missing Link
For this generation to be able to distinguish good from evil our institutional and educational systems have to qualify and situate proper leadership education in the context of virtue and positive social change. Good education and leadership should be the ability of the person in charge to cause positive and lasting social change without force. The principle of good governance has been a very useful tool in bringing about consensus. But it has not been able to remove coercion.
A lot of agreements are still being implemented by use of force even though all parties agreed to the provisions of the agreement. The missing link has always been an exemplary disposition. If we say no body should produce nuclear weapons nobody should even have them. It shouldn’t be a question of competence or maturity or power. Be the Change. If we say we want to end poverty, nobody should try to use market laws, embargoes, etc to reduce the economic benefits of others in the process of market or creative exchange.
Thomas Jefferson made a strong statement in this connection stressing that… in matters of polices stand as a rock in matters of choice swim with the oceans. Injunction should not be a one man show. If we say FREEDOM it should be Freedom for all, if we say INJUNCTION it should be Injunction for all.
Self Interest Our Major Battle
I see self interest as the stronghold of all present evil and also, the greatest crime to humanity. The world has a war to fight, which will free us from any other war, this war is the war after self interest. If we fight this war well we will eternally defeat terrorism, poverty, racism, exploitation, corruption, famine bad governance and misery. As a contribution in this life I am proposing that we lead our world by example.
Therein is the power to end our misery.
